Roosevelt Lake. For Mother's Day weekend Tanner's dad put together a fishing, skiing, camping weekend. He has fixed up his boat & is ready to go! We went up Friday morning, would have gone sooner, but Krista had her very first band concert on Thursday night. She was simply AMAZING! It's kind of crazy that elementary kids can plan instruments so dang well!
Can you pick her out?
Oh, she now wears glasses! She loves being able to see!
So we left Friday morning & before lunch we were out on the lake! We lathered on sunscreen & climbed into the boat after setting up camp. Papa drove us all around to get a feel for the lake then we let the kids out to swim a minute while hooking up the rope & getting out the gear. Krista went first. She's never been out on a knee board before, but by her second turn on it, she popped right up like she'd been on the water practicing for years!
Brianna wasn't so sure of knee boarding or of having to hold on for dear life while a boat yanked you all over the place,
but Deandra was born for this! This girl has NO FEAR & terrifies me! She popped right up onto her knees and held on & was even cutting through the wakes of the boat like a pro! Her turn lasted a good 10 minutes or more before she sigaled to be relieved. She never fell off!
Amanda & Cameron took a turn riding the knee board with Daddy, but they prefer swimming with the boat turned off. Tanner just popped up on the board like he'd been out there every day all his life, not years ago.
While Deandra was on the knee board for the first time, we were distracted by a military plane practicing their take off and landings on the water. It was just a bit unnerving having the plane coming directly toward you! But never fear, they were far enough away to be well into the air by the time they reached us! Still...
After playing on the water & getting burned to a crisp dispite all the sunscreen used, we cleaned up, ate lunch, visited, sent kids on a hunt for the coolest thing they could find & take a picture of, that kept them busy for a LONG time! Here's some of the pictures they came up with!
After LOTS of fun in the sun it was finally time to wind down for some much needed down time, but what's camping if you don't have smores? The kids LOVED having an excuse to play in the fire. Especially Cameron.
After watching him burn off the first few marshmallows, I took pity on him & tried to help him out. Well, it still caught on fire. Only this time he decided to swing the flaming marshmallow around his head to try to get the fire out. I caught the stick only to have the flaming marshmallow slide off the stick over his nose, leg & land on my sandled foot. It didn't leave anything but a sticky mark on him. This is what it did to me:
Let me tell you. It hurt. It continuted hurting for the next week. I was able to baby it for a good 2 weeks where they didn't pop all the way & finally dried out. Just this last week was I able to wear shoes again.
I was not happy. I limped around in hot weather barefoot on the rocks & sat around doing nothing. As much fun as we had it wasn't the best for me. But we still foind a few things to amuse me! The kids did all they could to make me laugh & forget about my foot!
Cameron had fun wearing his & everybody elses hats & showing them off. Crew just being Crew!
Girls doing each others hair. Okay, Amanda doing everybodys hair.
Tara freaking out over the dragon fly that landed on her. She was okay after we discovered it wasn't harmful & it was off of her....
Okay, so they didn't do these things simply to amuse me, but it definately helped! Here's the kids helping Papa check the worms before they go fishing...
The guys all did night fishing wich wasn't very profitable this trip, but fun none the less. By Saturday afternoon we'd packed up & headed out. I enjoyed the trip, but not so sure about camping in 90+ weather. Even with the water involved. I had an AMAZING Mother's Day, going barefoot to church & all. Tanner & the girls had the house looking like new & fixed me waffles, wich settled really well with baby, & I took a nap. What more could a mom ask for? A clean house, not having to fix dinner & a nap!
