Once upon a time there was a Handsome Young Engineering student that was married to a beautiful young seamstress who had 2 young children at home. This young couple wanted to spend more time together on their incredibly tight student budget doing something they both enjoyed. So the Handsome Student researched and designed a sweet kite pattern. Then he and his Beautiful Wife went to the wonderful world of Wal-mart and purchased some rip-stop nylon fabric and thread to sew. They were well within their limited budget and loving this new adventure together. After careful measuring, cutting, aligning, and pinning, this couple took turns sewing the kit together. Then came the fun part: attaching, measuring and securing a million and thin nylon ropes to the kite. That was such a tangled mess!! Then the Handsome Student worked on the handles for controlling the kite. It was coming out beautifully!! Finally it was ready to fly! They took it to the park in Mesa, AZ and laid it all out and it flew fabulously!! Only the breeze/wind was not consistent enough to keep it in the air for long periods of time. But that was okay, it was still lots of fun! The kite was large enough to pull somebody across the park, especially in the grassy areas while standing on a piece of cardboard! It was LOTS of fun!! Even their young daughter enjoyed helping fly the kite and watching Daddy!
As time went and children came, school came to an end an the Handsome Engineering student was soon an Engineer working full time providing for his Beautiful Wife and adoring young girls and the kite was set aside and pulled out only on occasion and soon was in the back of the closet, almost forgotten. Then came the Mexico house, and the perfect wind and breezes for flying the kite! On the young couples most recent trip the Beautiful Wife pulled out the kite and took it with them, determined to enjoy flying it on the beautiful beach of Rocky Point. The Handsome Engineer untangled all the lines and laid it out with the help of his adoring girls and enthusiastic nephew and nieces. It flew just as perfectly as it did all those years ago when he was a student. Then it was his Beautiful Wife’s turn. She did well! Then a gust of wind blew up off the ocean and took the kite to new heights and sent her running, but not only running, but faster than she could keep up with. Then she let go of the kite and tumbled into the hard packed sand. The Handsome Engineer caught the kite as was pulled along the beach for a bit before grounding the kite. The Beautiful Wife was very hesitant to get up off the ground. Something was not right. Her left shoulder was in a very awkward position and didn’t move when she sat up. Her handsome husband helped her back to the house only to find she was going into shock and needed medical attention. They hurried to a hospital in Rocky Point to be ushered right in and seen immediately! No waiting was fabulous!! The doctor looked and gently prodded the shoulder area and said it looked more like a fracture than a dislocation and they needed x-rays taken. The nurse positioned her painfully in front of the camera and with tears streaming down the Beautiful Wife’s face she took the pictures. During this time, the Handsome Engineer noticed something in the corner of the room and, trying to distract the Beautiful Wife, pointed out the corner: the bathroom! It did help to distract her and lessen the pain slightly. They returned to the doctor and were told it was indeed broken and apologetically helped force her broken shoulder/collar bone into a figure 8 harness to reset the bones. Painkillers were her saving grace! They returned home the next day to their castle in Queen Creek, and set an appointment the next morning to see an Orthopedic Surgeon that had helped the Beautiful Wife regain feeling in her left hand the previous year. After more x-rays they found that she had not only broken her collar bone, but she had done it in 3 places and was to remain in a sling or the figure 8 for the next 6-8 weeks. It has been a very long 2 weeks thus far, but the Handsome Engineer is taking fabulous care of his Beautiful Wife and adoring daughters and his handsome son. We will have to see if the kite gets flown again or if it is to be retired after this last adventure…..stay tuned…
